Duo stood on the wall, horror struck by what he had done.
Quatre couldn’t swim, so he struggled and kicked but he only seemed to be sinking and going deeper.
“H—help!” he called, swallowing a large amount of water, and choking. He was losing breath, and sinking quickly. His ankle hurt too. He was slipping in consciousness, and he stopped struggling and began to fall to the bottom, to weak to try anymore.
Suddenly he saw a familiar figure jump into the water.
Quatre was pulled out of the water and put on the soft grass.
“T—Trowa?” he sat up, coughing out some water, and saw everyone else. Duo, pale as a ghost, and Heero and Wufei looking concerned.
“W—who saved me?” Quatre asked.
Heero nodded towards Trowa, who looked embarrassed.
“Trowa! You saved my life!” Quatre squeaked, trying to stand up to go to Trowa.
As soon as he stood up, though, he moaned and collapsed.
“Quatre!” Trowa cried, running over to Quatre. “What happened?”
Quatre’s face was contorted with pain. “M—my ankle. I—I think I sprained it, or something. I—I guess I hit the wall as I fell.” He said, still shaking and going pale from the pain.
Heero had had some medical training, and walked over to Quatre, knelt over and checked his ankle.
“It isn’t sprained,” Heero said grimly, “It’s broken.”
Duo sank to his knees. “Quatre, I—I’m s—so sorry…” he stammered, completely slipping all the way to the ground, unable to support himself anymore, as he thought he had almost killed his best friend.
Heero walked over and helped Duo up, who was shaking.
Quatre gave a watery smile, and feeling Duo’s horrible pain, said “Duo, it’s ok, seriously. You didn’t mean to, and I can never stay mad at you for long anyway.”
Duo smiled back, looking relieved. Trowa saw Heero glance at Duo, then ran inside saying he needed to get a first aid kit.
“Are you feeling better?” Trowa asked Quatre anxiously.
“Yeah, I am, but my ankle kills, and I don’t think I can make it back to the house…” Quatre answered.
“I’ll help,” Trowa answered, looking embarrassed. Quatre grinned inwardly.
Trowa carried Quatre back to the house, Duo following, and then Wufei.
After Quatre was laid on a couch, Heero came down and wrapped Quatre’s ankle in medical gauze. Trowa went up stairs to change out of his wet clothes. Soon he came back in the usual turtleneck and jeans.
All the G-boys were now in the room.
Quatre winced as Heero wrapped his ankle. His face suddenly became worried and completely forgot his ankle’s pain.
“What am I gonna do about my job? I’ve got so much to do!”
Duo saw Quatre looking really upset, and said “Quatre, you need a vacation.”
Quatre looked scandalized. “I couldn’t! I’ve got too much that needs finished!” He cried.
Duo shook his head, then asked, “Quatre, what’s your secretary’s number?”
“It’s 521-674-809. Why…?” but he stopped short when he saw Duo get up and dial the number. Completely forgetting anything to do with his ankle, he jumped up and cried, “Duo, no!”
But Duo wasn’t listening. “Yeah, Mandy?” he asked the secretary,“I was wondering if Quatre could have, like, a few days off? Yeah, you noticed too? He really is overworking himself… Yeah, that would be great, thanks! See ya, Mandy.”
Duo grinned. “You’ve got three days off, Quatre.”
Quatre looked beyond horrified. “Duo, you can’t just do that!”
“I just did,” Duo told Quatre curtly.
Quatre started pacing nervously. “Duo, I’ve got fifteen papers to finish, and I’ve got a meeting with the president of an incredibly important company that we need to be able to cooperate with!” He sounded hysterical, and he paced faster, his ankle forgotten.
“You don’t understand, Duo! I have a contract to look over and sign by next Tuesday, and a seven-page report that is due on Wednesday, and another meeting with another company on Monday and Friday! I don’t have time for a vacation! I…”
But what else needed done, no one got to hear. Quatre suddenly swayed heavily and collapsed on the floor.
