Runaway

Part 4

Duo made Deathscythe kneel over and he hopped out of the cockpit with the sandwiches. He leaned against a tree, eating the sandwiches. “God, I am hungry.” He said, gobbling down another sandwich.

He looked around. This didn’t look familiar at all. He decided to get up and look around.

“Look! A Gundam pilot!” Someone screamed. Duo whirled around. “Shit! He cursed. He had walked on an enemy base. He began to run to Deathscythe, which was unlucky, because he had walked far away from it. Suddenly there was a burning pain that flashed through his shoulder. He looked behind him to realize a group of guards was running after him and shooting. Another pain seared through his leg. They had shot his leg too, which had slowed him down greatly.

“Damn! I might not make it to Deathscythe!” Duo thought angrily. To his left there was some construction being done. The frame of the building had been up, so he ran over to it and ran to the elevator and went up almost to the top. He ran on the beams to get away from the guards chasing him.

Because of the loss of blood from his arm and leg, Duo was becoming light-headed. This wasn’t very lucky, as he was trying to run on narrow beams. Abruptly, he tripped over a bucket and slipped off the beam he was running on. He was left holding on by one hand.

“Look!” said one of the soldiers, “He slipped! It will easy to get him now!” Unexpectedly he was knocked of the beam he was on by someone behind him.

Duo was feeling very light-headed now, and knew he was slipping in mind and body. Half unconscious, he knew he wouldn’t last much longer. Suddenly he felt his hand slip. He was falling.

To his surprise, someone caught his hand, and brought him back up with ease. Almost completely unconscious, he managed to open his eyes. He thought he was dreaming. He saw Heero. Then he blacked out entirely.

“Damn! He passed out!” Heero cursed. Heero held Duo tightly by the waist with one hand, and shot the rest of the guards with his other hand and gun. He ran into the elevator and down back to Deathscythe with Duo.

When he got to Duo’s Gundam, he set Duo in Deathscythe’s open hand and pulled out the first-aid kit Quatre had thrown to him.

“Thank god Quatre gave me this,” Heero thought aloud, rubbing some disinfectant on Duo’s leg and shoulder. He then wrapped Duo’s shoulder and leg in medical gauze.

When he was done, he just sat in the hand of Duo’s Gundam staring at Duo. “I love you Duo.” He said after awhile. He felt his eyes burn and water up. I’m not going to cry am I? He thought, surprised with himself.

No matter how much he tried to hold them in, tears slipped down his face, and he didn’t bother to wipe them away. “I really do love you Duo, and I’m so sorry.” He said, tears now pouring down his face.

“I—I love you too, Heero.”

Heero almost fell of Deathscythe’s hand.

“Duo!” Heero said, scrambling over to Duo, “Are you ok?”

“Never thought I live to see the day you said that,” Duo said weakly, trying to smile.

“Hn. Same as ever.”

“But you aren’t.”

Heero hesitated before he answered. “No, I’m not,” he agreed.

Duo gave his signature grin, or at least a feeble version of it. “Let’s go home. You think you could pilot Death?”

“Sure.” Heero said. “You know, you lost a lot of blood.” He added.

“I know, and I feel like I’m gonna pass out again.” Duo said.

“Don’t.” Heero said warningly.

“Heh. I’ll try not too.” Duo answered.

Heero helped Duo up, and put Duo’s arm around his shoulders. They began to walk in when without notice, Duo collapsed.

“Duo!” Heero cried.

“J—just fine down here,” Duo said faintly.

Heero carried Duo in the rest of the way, and walked home in Deathscythe.

When Heero had returned Deathscythe to its hangar, he brought Duo home. As soon as he walked in the front door carrying Duo, everyone ran up to them.

“You brought him back!” Trowa said, smiling.

“He’s alive, right?” Wufei asked worriedly.

Quatre just grinned at Heero, actually smiled lightly back.

“Yeah, he’s alive.” Heero answered.

“What happened?” Trowa asked.

“Well, as Quatre had worried, he ran onto enemy base.” Heero answered, laying Duo on a couch. Quatre shuddered. “He got shot in the arm and leg. I found him hanging off the edge of a beam on a construction site.”

“He caught me just in time. I thought I was dreaming when I saw his face.” Duo said, smiling.

“You did?” Heero asked, taken by surprise.

“I did.” Duo confirmed, positively grinning now.

Heero smiled again, and continued. “He passed out as soon as I caught him from lack of blood, so I brought him to Deathscythe, and used the first aid kit Quatre gave me. It came in handy,” Heero included.

Quatre smiled. “I knew it would.”

“He forgot to add that he also told me he loved me and he was sorry.” Duo added.

“Duo!” Heero cried, his face blushing crimson.

Everyone started to laugh. Even Heero joined in.

“Prove you love him, then!’ Wufei said part jokingly, part seriously.

Heero stopped laughing. He paused. “OK, I will.” He said.

He walked over to Duo and kissed him.

Duo’s eyes opened wide, caught by surprise, but then he kissed back. It lasted a long time.

When it ended, the room was deadly silent. Heero and Duo were looking at each other affectionately, completely unaware of anyone else’s presence.

Suddenly they snapped out of it.

“Well, there, I proved it.” Heero said, smiling.

Duo grinned. “Wow, Heero. I never knew you were such a good kisser!”

Heero smiled mischievously.

“You know,” Quatre said, smiling, “I have the feeling things are about to change.”

You guys are lucky this got finished. Around Part Three I got MASSIVE writers block and couldn’t write anything for a week. It’s pretty corny, I know, but I like getting feedback, and besides, I had fun writing it, and that’s all that counts, right? (sigh). Just in case you didn’t do it earlier, my e-mail is Star_Sara10[ AT ]yahoo.com. Please e-mail me! (If you think it sucks to hell, try to say it nicely). Thanx for reading!
