Runaway

Part 2

Heero, in spite of himself, had leaned against the wall, listening to their conversation. He was stunned. Was he really that horrible? Was that how Duo felt about him? And all the crying—Heero felt absolutely rotten. He had not made Duo cry; he had made him create a flood in his room. Good thing he had someone like Quatre for a best friend.

Heero slid down onto the ground, against the wall, feeling horrible for the rest of the day.

“Dinner!” called Trowa.

Duo ran in, and started pigging out with everyone else, and had finished about half his plate until Heero came in. He then dropped his fork and walked straight out of the room.

“Duo!” Quatre called, and followed Duo out of the room.

Trowa and Wufei looked hopelessly at Heero.

“What did you say to him?” Trowa asked Heero sternly.

“Just to get out of his life!” a voice called from Duo’s room.

“Duo…” said Quatre part warningly, part exasperated.

Heero looked up from his plate, surprised for a moment, then started eating again.

“Heero, Duo has feelings you know,” Trowa said.

“So?” asked Heero.

Duo, in his room, heard this.

Wufei looked shocked. “So?” he said, “So? No wonder he is angry with you! Stop being so heartless Heero!”

Heartless. That word again, thought Heero. Maybe I am, and always will.

“Duo! Calm down, please!” Quatre pleaded.

“I don’t want to! In fact, please leave my room!” Duo screeched.

This conversation could be heard in the Dining Room.

“Duo, I only want to help—”

“I told you to get out, so get out Quatre!”

“But Duo—!”

Get out!” (Sound of a slap)

“Oh, Duo!”

Quatre ran into the Dining Room, his hand over his cheek, which Duo had apparently slapped.

Trowa ran up to Quatre. “Are you ok, Quatre?” he asked worriedly.

“I—I’m fine. I’ll go get some ice—” Quatre said a bit shakily.

“No, I’ll get it. You go sit down.” Trowa insisted.

“Ok, but we really should be worrying about Duo.”

“It doesn’t seem he wants company.” Heero said from a corner.

“And whose fault is that?” Quatre said angrily.

Heero hesitated for a second, then said “Duo’s.”

Duo was in his room, on his bed. I think I’ll run away. I slapped Quatre, my best friend, the others won’t care, and Heero will be happy, no doubt. So Duo decided to run away.

He ran to his closet and grabbed a suitcase. He packed all of his clothes, a bag of sandwiches, and brought out all of his money. He ran to the front door, which was in the Living Room, where everyone was. When Quatre saw Duo, he jumped up from the chair, holding his tea.

“Duo, where are you going?” Quatre asked.

Duo looked at Quatre angrily. “To go get Deathscythe!” he said, and he ran out the door.

Quatre’s teacup fell to the floor with a crash.
