Ok, this is a very short part, but there will be more, I promise! Rather, the Muses promise through me.
/shit!/ Heero ducked back around the corner, surprised by his own mental reaction to nearly walking right into two uniformed “peacekeepers.” After a moment, though, he chalked it up to spending too much time around Duo and picking up some of the braided one’s habits. Including the gutter-mind, it seemed, but for that one there was no help. Duo had been swearing fit to rip the paint from the walls from the day they first met and hadn’t stopped since. At least the boy had the next three forays.
There were actually three very good reasons for that. They would have been rotating through, except Quatre was injured and unable to take his turn, and Trowa refused to leave his side short of a direct order from Quatre to get some sleep. So that left three pilots to split over five trips out, and fortune had gifted the hyperactive one with the greatest talents of sneaking in the group: everyone had been more than happy to let Duo take the extra turns outside.
He ducked down the next few corridors, thinking to himself. /Why can’t Lady Une think of packing in worker’s uniforms for disguise?/ Then he mentally answered his own question: /a worker sneaking around would be equally suspicious, and they have pictures of every legitimate crewman here…/
“The Gundam pilot! Get him!” Too deep in his thoughts, Heero had escaped a pair of officers only to walk right into a whole squadron.
/The Gundam pilot? That indicates they were on the lookout for me, and possibly that they have my picture, at least… And if they have mine, it would be a sure shot that they have the others’, as well./ Dashing down the corridors, he tapped the back of his half of the Yin-Yang necklace Duo had given him, then turned his full attention to leading them away from the hiding place while avoiding capture.
