disclaimers: i don't own the g-boys, they belong to bandi or sunrise or whatever. i don't own the song, that's bsb's. i know i know. just read it anyways. i swear this song was written for these two. and tell me what you think. kudasai?
the young minister stood before the small group of guests reading slowly from his book. in front of him heero and duo stood facing each other and looking quite stunning in their matching black tuxes. both pairs of eyes shone brightly as they listened to the minister's words.
after a bit, he looked at the two boys and asked, "do you have the rings?"
duo nodded and pulled the set from his pocket. the two rings were a gleaming silver, and inside both was engraved: joined forever ~ heero & duo. the american took his koi's left hand and gently slipped one on his finger, proudly proclaiming, "with this ring, i thee wed."
heero smiled softly. he slid the matching ring onto duo's hand and quietly echoed him. "with this ring, i thee wed." as soon as the words were out of his mouth, he pulled his beloved close to him and kissed him deeply.
duo melted into the tender kiss and the sweet taste of heero's lips. it was the best moment of his entire life.
stepping forward, the minister smiled broadly and addressed those gathered, "i present to you heero and duo maxwell-yuy."
the entire group rose to their feet with applause; quatre, trowa and wufei at the front. quatre was struggling to hold back happy tears while trowa and wufei looked on with smiles.
duo and heero stood proudly before their friends, fingers intertwined together. their faces reflected more joy than either had ever known before.
the reception was held at one of the winner mansions, which quatre had gladly supplied for the occasion. the huge ballroom was beautifully decorated in black, white and silver. everything was proceeding very smoothly and traditionally, when the loud squeal of a microphone erupted throughout the room.
on the small stage at the front of the room, duo grinned sheepishly. "gomen nasai, minna." he scanned the room, quickly locating what he was searching for. "hey, hee-chan! get up here!"
heero smiled and shook his head as he made his way over to his husband.
duo reached out and pulled the japanese boy up onto the stage next to him and handed him a microphone. smiling broadly at the guests, he said, “heero and i put something together for each other as sort of a marriage promise. we thought sharing it with everyone would help seal it.” he reached over and laced his fingers through heero’s. “so enjoy it!”
the lights dimmed. a single spotlight shone on the two boys, bathing them in a soft, bluish light. over the sound system came the faintest strain of music. the sound slowly grew until it filled the entire room.
still holding tight to heero’s hand, duo brought his microphone to his face. turning slightly so he could lock eyes with his koi, yet still face the audience, the american began to sing.
it’s in the silences, the words you never say. i see it in your eyes, always starts the same way. it seems like everyone we know is breaking up. does anybody ever stay in love, anymore?
everyone listened in complete silence as duo’s voice rang out. the beauty and confidence behind it had them all transfixed.
i promise you, from the bottom of my heart, i will love you til death do us part. i promise you, as a lover and a friend, i will love you like i’ll never love again; with everything i am.
heero’s heart began to speed up as the notes echoed throughout the room. taking a deep breath, he picked up with the next verse, meaning every word of it.
i see you look at me when you think i’m not awake. you’re searching for clues of just how deep my feelings are. how do you prove the sky is blue, the oceans wide? all i know is what i feel when i look into your eyes.
as heero started in on the refrain the he had just sung, duo swore he could feel himself glowing.
i promise you, from the bottom of my heart, i will love you til death do us part. i promise you, as a lover and a friend, i will love you like i’ll never love again; with everything i am.
both boys paused to catch their breath as the music continued to hold everyone’s attention. they smiled lovingly at each other, and heero slipped his arm around duo’s waist. duo welcomed the touch and leaned into his koibito as he continued with the last verse.
oh there are no guarantees; that’s what you always say to me.
heero jumped in with the next few lines.
and late at night i feel the tremble in your touch. but what i’m trying to say to you, i’ve never said to anyone.
duo’s voice rang clearly throughout the room.
oohh, oh, oh, oh! i promise!
then, together they threw their hearts into the refrain. the two voices soared together; each perfectly complimenting the other. all the guests could do was stare in complete awe.
i promise you, from the bottom of my heart, i will love you til death do us part. i promise you, as a lover and a friend, i will love you like i’ll never love again; with everything i am.
looking straight into his koi’s eyes, heero half-whispered,
you’re everything i am.
smiling broadly, duo answered,
with everything i am.
the music slowly died away and not a soul moved. heero and duo stood frozen on stage for a long moment until duo suddenly flung himself into heero’s arms. both microphones dropped to the floor with a loud screech that no one seemed to notice.
the pair stood clinging tightly to each other in the silence. slowly, heero raised duo’s face to his own. joyful tears sparkled in both pairs of eyes. they brushed their lips together gently, then more deeply and passionately until they were kissing the life out of each other.
the guests erupted into applause.
an exhausted duo snuggled deeper into heero’s warm embrace, dragging the bed covers up over them.
the japanese boy smiled sleepily at his husband. he gently brushed the damp bangs from his face and placed a soft kiss on his forehead. “today was absolutely perfect, koi.”
duo glance happily at the silver wedding band on his finger. “absolutely perfect,” he agreed. “because you’re perfect. ai shiteru, hee-chan.”
“i love you too, duo-chan.”
still trading soft kisses, they finally drifted to sleep. even in the dark room, the two silver rings gleamed brightly - a promise of love forever.
