The SUV pulled up in front of the Tateyama Hospital. Wufei drove off again to go park the car while the others followed Heero and Selena inside the building. Once they got inside a nurse came out with a wheelchair and took Selena to a room, Trowa followed her. Quatre decided to go sit in the lobby, and Duo stayed with Heero while he filled out a form.
“Which one of you is the father?” asked the woman behind the desk.
“I am.” Heero said.
“Sir, I need your names,” the older woman behind the desk said. You could tell she was getting on in years, wrinkled face, blue gray hair, and that voice that elders tend to get.
“Heero and Selena. Be quiet Duo.” He answered in a annoyed voice since Duo kept whispering stuff to him about the woman.
“I need your last name also sir,” she said, obviously annoyed with the two young men. “Yuy, Heero Yuy.”
“Alright, Selena Yuy in room 8-”
“Actually it’s Selena Kou,” he corrected her.
The woman grunted a bit then typed into the computer, “Selena Kou in room 83. Young man, if I could have you fill out these forms here. And be sure not to leave anything blank.” She handed him a clipboard with three pages clipped to it. As she handed them to him she had a look of disgust on her face. Obviously she was appalled at the thought of Heero getting a girl he wasn’t married to pregnant.
“Dude, she reminds me of my grandma. You make one mistake and she totally disowns you for the rest of your life. ‘My own grandchild! It’s your father’s influence, I know it. You were always such a good boy! What happened? You’ve become some kind of little hoodlum.’ He imitated an old, high pitched voice.
“Duo, you never told me you had a grandmother. And you don’t have a dad.” Heero said, writing information.
“Ya I found her after the war. Long story short, the post office had a lot of letters that never made it to my family. So I used them to track her down. She kinda didn’t know about my parents being dead, so when I told her about me fighting in the war she blamed it on my dad. Until I told her about them.”
Heero finished the forms and handed them back to the woman. She said nothing but gave him another look before they walked away.
“Hey blondie! I see Trowa has joined you.” Duo smiled and sat down next to Quatre.
Heero walked right past the others and headed for the elevator. They jumped up from their seats and followed him into the elevator right before the doors closed. There was a small waiting room when you stepped out of the elevator, and then a door that lead to a hallway where all the rooms were. Heero continued straight forward as if he were being drawn by an unknown force. Trowa, Duo, and Quatre dropped onto the three seater couch. In all the excitement and rushing it wasn’t until that point they realized how exhausted they were. *Ping* The elevator doors opened and out walked a soaking wet Wufei. Quatre looked over at him. “Goodness Wufei! How did you get so wet?” He sat down in the chair across from the others. “I didn’t find an empty space until the end of the lot, it was a five minute dash to the building. It starting to lighten up though,” he started to shiver, “Do they have to keep it so cold in here?” “Oh dear,” a nurse rushed over to him carrying a towel, “You had better dry off so you don’t catch a cold.”
“Hey Heero, you got a gun with you? I wanna put myself outta this misery.” Selena was sitting in bed, she was dressed in a pale green hospital gown and clutching tightly to Heero’s hand.
“Don’t joke like that. You can get through this, it’ll all be over before you know it.” He kissed his love a couple times on her damp forehead. “Can we get a cold cloth over here?”
Selena moaned, waves of a burning pain shot through her body continuously. She held at her stomach. It wouldn’t be over soon enough for her.
Heero walked through the door into the waiting room.
“How’s she doing?” Trowa asked.
“She’s at seven cm. Another three or four hours they said.” He dropped heavily into a chair, he looked at his watch [8:33 p.m.] “They gave her sedatives to help stop the pain. They also want her to walk around a bit after they kick in.”
“I guess we’ll be here a while then.” Trowa said and picked up a magazine.
“How did the walk go Quatre?” Trowa asked.
“She did good. We walked for about an hour. She wanted Heero there, but I told her he had gone down to the lobby to get coffee to help calm him.”
Just then he came walking out of the elevator, “They don’t have coffee. Or tea or soda. What kinda hospital doesn’t have coffee? They had coffee back in Chikura Town.”
“I know Heero, I know. Selena is doing quite well if it will make you feel better.” Quatre said.
“Great” He noticed Duo standing over at the window. “What are you looking at?” he asked coming to stand next to him.
“The stars. I was just remembering what it was like to be out there. It was so peaceful in space. When the war was going on I always thought that fighting was the only thing we were gonna be doing the rest of our lives. We were born fighting and we would die fighting. Never once did I think we would end up here. I mean look, we went from soulless fighting machines, and now we’re in a hospital waiting for a new life to enter this world. And it isn’t just any life, it’s a life you helped to create. That’s really special Heero, you should be proud.”
Heero gazed at the stars. He knew Duo was right. He’d always been the one to take life away. It felt good to know he helped create a new life.
Two hours later…
A nurse opened the door, “Mr. Yuy, she’s ready now.”
Heero rushed past the nurse and into the room. Another nurse was feeling around on Selena’s belly, “Yes I’m sure your ready.”
The doctor came in. “So how are you doing today?”
“I’ve had better days,” Selena answered. She once again was clutching tightly to Heero’s hand.
“You push while I count okay?” Heero told her. “1.. 2.. 3.. 4.. 5.. 6.. 7.. 8.. 9.. 10.. relax.” (this goes on for awhile. actually labor is really boring, so I don’t know what else to write.)
Soon Selena and Heero held a beautiful baby girl in their arms. She had tuffs of reddish-brown hair and cobalt blue eyes. The nurse had wrapped her in a soft pink blanket and was sleeping soundly. One by one the pilots entered the room. Quatre got to hold the baby first. He made small cooing noises to her and smiled, he then handed her to Duo. Duo gently rocked her, “Hey Heero, can I be the godfather? Please?” He’d fallen in love with the fragile little bundle in his arms. Heero smiled, “Sure Duo.” Then it was Trowa’s turn. He’d remembered seeing babies at the circus, but never one this close before, he smiled. Finally the baby was handed over to Wufei. He didn’t really know much about babies, he’d never really seen one. He stared for awhile at her. “She’s just so tiny,” he said. He started to stroke her face, just then she reached out and grabbed his finger. His eyes sparkled slightly. “Chelsea.” “Nani?” Heero asked. “Her name should be Chelsea. It suits her.” Wufei said. “Alright Wufei. Her name is Chelsea.” Selena said. She took hold of Heero’s hand, he kissed her. They were all going to make it through. After all, there isn’t anything the Gundam Pilots couldn’t handle.
