The Melody of a Flower

Part 4

As she sat on their bed in the dark, Lila cradled the stuffed panda Duo had won her at the fair last month. She held it close, how could she get through this? Wufie had cheated on her, she knew that. But how would she know if Duo wouldn't just do the same? "God, what can I do?" She asked as she gazed at the full moon shining through the window. "Help me, god." She whispered as she felt the tears silently streamed down her face.

Melody, usually very bubbly, sat in silence as Jason played his video game. "What's wrong?" He asked, over the sound that signaled his losing the game. "Damn!" He cursed. "I want to help Lila, but how? I'm so confused." She muttered, resting her chin on her hands. "She loves that braided dude, right?" "Um...I think." "Well, does he love her?" "There's the problem. I don't know. If he did, then those two could pair off." Melody cursed and stole Jason's hat and threw it on the shelf. "Hey! That's my favorite hat! Ask me what that cost!" He growled, pinning her playfully on the bed. "That's it! Jason, you're a genius!" Melody kissed him. "I am? Um...yea, of course I am." He grinned. "We'll ask if they both feel the same, and find some way for them to tell each other." She smirked and began to scheme. "Uh-oh." Jason mumbled and went back to his game, but not after getting creamed with a pillow.

Wufie entered the dark room, Lila was asleep on the window seat again, with that damned panda in her arms. "Stupid girl." He muttered and crawled into bed, leaving her on the window seat, with out even giving her a cover. Little did Wufie know, she was awake, and heard ever word and movement he had made. She silently let an hour pass, and when she was sure he was asleep and she got up and left their room. She quickly walked to the living room, it was the only room that was guaranteed to be empty at night. "Stupid, huh?" She mumbled as she unfolded the couch. As she covered up, she tucked her panda next to her. "Duo..." She smiled and hugged it closer.

As Heero slept, Duo lay flat on the cold bed, staring at the ceiling. "Why do I stand for this?" He thought, frowning as he remembered the noticeable loss of interest Heero showed towards him. He was just a toy, something to occupy him. But when a new one came along, he'd be discarded. "You think I'll just sit back and be your 'soft place to fall', Heero?" Duo thought, as he remembered how Heero left Wufie for him, they must've patched up their relationship and he was no longer needed. Duo, sick of the emptiness he felt and the feeling of being just a toy for Heero, got up and hurried out of the room and down to the kitchen. As he went to the fridge, he spied Lila sleeping on the couch. "Wufie must've left her on the window seat again." He mumbled as he got his Coke and sat on the edge of the futon. He was taken aback when he saw the Panda he'd won her, clutched protectively in her arms. "Oh God, I don't know what I'm doing, help me live through this." He mumbled, knowing if either guy saw this, he'd get killed, but he slid under the covers with her none the less. He fell into a relaxing sleep.

As the sun spilled through the pastel curtains, Duo woke up to see Lila curled up on his chest, clutching a fistful of his white t-shirt. "Good morning, Duo." A voice said, almost laughing. He looked up to see Melody. "Um..." Duo blushed. "Shhh...chill, I just want to know something." "What?" Duo asked, cautiously. "Do you love her, and you'd better mean it." Melody asked, jabbing her finger into his rib. "Ow, yes, yes I do." "Why won't you tell *her* that? You know she's hurting." Melody tilted her head, and looked at him, waiting for an answer. "Well..." "I don't know, ok? I...I'm well, afraid she'll reject me." He whispered, looking at the sleeping girl. "How else will you find out?" Melody asked, standing up, before she left she turned and looked him square in the eye. "Tell her, soon. Ok?" She then turned and left. "Tell me how." Duo muttered, looking at the girl as she stirred slightly, rolling over, yet never releasing his shirt. "Uh-oh." Duo sweatdropped as he tried to pry it loose. She still slept on, unaware of poor Duo's predicament.
