Disclaimer: I do not own Gundam Wing. Though I really wish that I did. Hey, I can dream can't I? Well anyway don’t even bother suing me. Because it won’t be worth your time and effort. I don’t have any money anyway. ^-^;;
Warning: This fic does contain shounen ai, it may be slightly depressing and there is some OOC. I just thought that it would be a good idea for me to set up some kind of warning. ^-^
James 4:14
Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow.
For what is life? It is even as a vapour, that
appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
The sky was clear. Not a cloud could be seen. Duo sighed as he gazed out into the evening sky. The day had gone so smoothly for some reason. And it seemed like it was what could have been considered a perfect day. Duo sighed again as his gaze traveled up a bit and he thought about Heero and his new mission. Why didn’t he let me go along with him? He never lets me assist him with any of his missions. Then again, the ‘perfect soldier’ asking for help? Duo shrugged as he slowly closed his eyes. “Yeah, that would be the day…” Duo trailed off. Turning around, he took another look at Quatre’s mansion. “But then again, I <never> in my wildest dreams, thought, that I would be staying in a mansion.” He said as he settled back down into his chair.
There was one thing that bothered Duo the most. This single thought had been playing and teasing his mind and thoughts all day. He wanted to know when Heero would be back, or if he was ever going to be back. Duo dismissed such thoughts from his mind. No, he’s the ‘perfect soldier’, he’s escaped death too many times for it to just take him now…or has he? I should know the most, shouldn’t I?
Just then Quatre stepped out onto the balcony where Duo had been thinking. “Hi Duo…” Quatre said as he began to shiver. “It sure is cold out here…do you want a jacket or something?”
“No, thanks anyway Quatre.” Duo said as he then turned his attention back to the stars. He was extremely cold but he didn’t want to be a bother to his friend and he really didn’t care about what happened to him. The only thing that mattered to him was that Heero Yuy got home safely.
“Ok…I just don’t want to see you getting sick that’s all…well, if you change your mind, you know where the closet is right?” Quatre asked as he headed for the door to the inside.
“Which one?” Duo asked. He meant it more as a joke than anything else.
Quatre let out a soft giggle then left.
And once again Duo found himself alone with himself and his thoughts.
A little while later:
It was now going on two-thirty in the morning. Duo was beginning to feel a little tired, mostly because of the hectic schedule he was forced to lead, being a student the first part of the day and a Gundam pilot the rest of the time. Sighing, Duo finally decided that Heero wasn’t coming home yet. He hoped and preyed that Heero would come home safely from this mission. For he didn’t know what he would do without him. A life without Heero, to Duo, seemed like no life worth living at all.
Standing up, Duo slowly made his way to his bedroom. And by the way he was feeling, it seemed to take forever. Why should I feel this way? Duo thought to himself as he pulled his braid over his shoulder and began to play with the end of it. After all, Heero was just his comrade. Why should he worry so much about him? Heero’s been fine up until this point.
But that wasn’t enough. Duo wanted to know for sure that he would be able to see his beloved once again. To be able to gaze into those cobalt blue eyes again. And to see the smile that he knew was for him and him alone.
Duo smiled as he pictured Heero smiling. He knew that that was a very rare sight indeed. And even when that happened he was alone with the boy. Suddenly he felt all warm inside. <Heero’s alive and he’s out there somewhere…and soon he’ll be back here with me…> Duo thought to himself as he slipped into bed. And soon he was fast asleep.
Quatre sighed as he stared down into his cup of coffee. Something was up. Duo was down lately, and he couldn’t really figure out why. Heero’s been gone for some time now. On that mission. Maybe that could be why Duo’s so down. Quatre then sighed again, only this time it caught the attention of Trowa and Wufei, who were also sitting in the kitchen.
“What’s wrong, Quatre?” Asked the normally quiet pilot of Heavyarms.
Quatre looked up from his coffee and smiled lightly. “Oh, I was just thinking…”
“About what?” Trowa asked, with a hint of compassion in his voice.
Quatre looked at the pilot of Heavyarms for a moment. There was a certain look in his eyes, well at least in the one he could see directly. He could see that Trowa was concerned about him. So instead of dancing around the truth, he went right to the point.
“I’m kind of worried about Duo, that’s all…” Quatre said as he shrugged his shoulder nonchalantly. “He’s been acting kind of down lately. Like something’s bothering him. Did you notice anything different about him?”
Wufei snorted. “Yeah, I’ve noticed that he hasn’t been disturbing me while I’m trying to meditate lately. And frankly, I think I’m beginning to like Maxwell like that.”
Quatre sighed. “Well, what do you think, Trowa?” The young Arabian asked, expecting a little bit of a better answer than Wufei’s.
“I’m not really sure what it could be…” Trowa said as he trailed off.
“I think that what he needs is Heero to come back. Did you notice that ever since Heero left on this mission, Duo’s been acting very strange. Come to think of it, that’s when the whole thing with Duo started.”
Quatre sat there for a moment, completely lost in thought. He thought about how he might feel if Trowa should have a mission that he would have to go on alone. And the thought made him shiver. <If Trowa dies, than I want to die too. > He thought to himself. He couldn’t bare the thought of being separated from the one person who truly loved him. And the one person that he loved so much. Then he thought about Duo. Duo is usually so care free and all. With the news of Heero’s mission he must have been devastated to find out he couldn’t accompany him. And probably wondered a great deal of why he couldn’t.
“Yeah, you could be right about that one…” Trowa said as he looked down at the floor for a moment. Quatre wondered if Trowa felt what he did. Looking around a bit, Quatre moved his seat a little closer to Trowa’s.
“Don’t ever leave me…” Quatre whispered softly into the boy’s ear, as he lightly closed his eyes. Suddenly Quatre felt something-warm brush against his lips. Opening his eyes he saw that it was Trowa. Moving his mouth closer to Quatre’s ear Trowa softly whispered, “I’ll try my best…”
Wufei sighed and shook his head as he took another sip of his coffee. <There they go again… > He thought to himself. Those two were made for each other. You can just tell.
Duo sighed as he slowly sat up in bed. <What time is it anyway…?> He thought drowsily to himself. Leaning over he pushed some of the junk off of his nightstand to take a look at his clock. Duo blinked. Could it be 11:15 already? Duo couldn’t even begin to remember the last time he actually stayed in bed that long. Getting out of bed he quickly got changed and headed down the stairs.
“Oh, so you’ve finally decided to get up, ne Maxwell?”
Duo didn’t say anything and just slightly glared at Wufei. “I’m hungry…” Duo said as he looked down at his grumbling stomach and gave it a rub. “I’m going to get something to eat.” He said.
“Ok.” The young Arabian boy said as he turned the page in his book. “Just don’t go starting the kitchen on fire or blowing it up or anything like that…”
Duo sighed. “Yes, father!” He called out from the kitchen.
“Well, Maxwell seems to be back to normal today.” Wufei said as he took a seat in a nearby armchair.
“Yeah, but why did he get up so late? He went to bed the same time as we did last night.” Quatre said as he glanced back at Wufei.
Wufei simply shrugged as he leaned over and picked up a book and began reading.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. Quatre looked up from his book. “I’ll get it.” He said as he stood up, a slightly puzzled look coming over his face. Walking over to the door reached for the handle, wondering who would be coming to see them now…

Hehehe ^-^
Cliffhanger…ohhhhh…who could it be? And what’s up with Duo? Does he really miss Heero that much? And what about the whole secret thing? Well, more to come…maybe…<evil grin>
