Remembrance

Disclaimer: I do not own Gundam Wing. They belong to who they belong to and that’s not me. So, please do not sue me, all I own is a few of dust bunnies and that is it.

A tear welled in his eye upon returning to the place where the Maxwell church once stood. A place he avoided for so long, now just an open lot in the colony. Duo let out a long low sigh as he wandered in the lot, remembering how it used to be before it was destroyed by the Alliance. He remembered how the church took him in and raised him. He remembered how Sister Helen comforted him when he was sent home from school (because he was fighting with kids that were picking on him and saying he smelled). He remembered when she first braided his long hair, instead of cutting it off (a braid he still wears today). This brought a faint smile to Duo’s mouth. He remembered how he tried to save the church, but when he returned he found the bodies of the priest and Sister Helen lying on the ground, in the rubble that was left of the Maxwell church. And he remembered Sister Helen’s last words as she died in his arms. Upon remembering this Duo fell to his knees and began to weep. An hour or so had passed and it began to rain, Duo sat there in silence until he felt a hand on his shoulder. He turned with a jerk to see Trowa looking down at him from under his umbrella. Duo quickly rubbed his face and eyes trying to conceal his tears. Trowa simply smiled and said “I understand, come now before you catch pneumonia.” He held out his hand to help his friend up. Duo took Trowa’s hand and quickly stood up. He rubbed his eyes one more time and said “You are not going to tell the others about this, are you? ‘Cause if Heero or Wufei ever found out they would never let me live it down, me Duo Maxwell the God of Death crying.” Trowa gave a little smile and said “It’ll just be our little secret. Let’s get going it is starting to get cold and rain harder.” Trowa then noticed his friend shivering violently. He put his jacket over Duo’s shoulders and started leading him back to the hotel. “Wait a minute Trowa.” Duo said. “I have one thing left to do.” Trowa nodded, as Duo reached into his pocket and pulled out two small roses. He placed the two flowers on the ground said a final goodbye, turned and the two friends started back to the hotel slowly.
