I just started writing again, so sorry if I am a little rusty….but I love comments send them to me at shinigami_003[ AT ]yahoo.com.
Heero looked over the heap of bricks that was once a wall. He ducked down quickly and looked at the person huddling beside him.
“How many?” The figure asked.
Heero glanced at the boy, his own age. “12” he said in a strained voice. He prayed that Duo hadn’t picked up on the emotions he was strangely emitting.
“Well, this isn’t good.” He cried as he pushed the sunglasses up his grimy nose, “nope. Not at all.” He winced as a bullet hit a brick by his head.
“hn…” Heero grunted.
Duo thought of lunging at Heero and strangling him but was put off by the idea of baring himself to the enemies’ bullets just to be calmly swatted off by the aloof soldier-boy.
“You idiot! Is that all you can say: hn…!” he screamed “If you haven’t already noticed yet there are twelve of them and two of us and they have got guns and we have got a paper weight!” he was starting to turn red and his hair was escaping his braid, making him look even more psychotic.
Heero rolled his cobalt blue eyes and waved the hand gun in the air. Duo made an impatient sound and slapped his forehead. Heero stopped what he was doing and watched Duo carefully “Why do you want to live so badly, its not like you’ve got anything much to live for anyways.” He asked.
There was an explosion ten metres in front them, Duo huddled lower behind his pile of bricks. “Because there is…” There was another explosion but it was short of the two of them again. Heero lost sight of Duo, his heart stopped as he saw Duo laying out from the cover, leaving his head and shoulders exposed.
Heero lunged with all of his might and rolled on to Duo’s side and violently yanked him back behind the cover. Duo shifted and is eyelids fluttered, he groaned as he rolled over on his side and spat out blood and teeth.
“Mother fucker….” The American snarled as he stuck his finger in his mouth to feel a gap where one of his front teeth was. “Now everyone’s gonna make fun of me!” he whined.
Heero laughed at Duo’s expense “What’s so bloody funny?” Duo retorted.
Heero stopped laughing at his friend and ignored the question “Why do you want to live?” he persisted.
“Because there is someone out there who wants me dead.” He answered simply, Heero was caught off guard. He was expecting something like ‘because I am Shinigami… ’ or ‘I wasn’t ordered to…’ or maybe ‘because I am in love with someone and I haven’t had the chance to tell them’ hoping selfishly for the last one, only seemed to be in vain.
Duo abruptly grabbed the nearest brick and tossed it over his head, this snapped Heero out of his thoughts. Duo laughed menacingly as he heard his unsuspecting victim cry out in pain and frustration.
Heero cocked his head to the side and gave him a puzzled look. “I don’t understand.” He muttered.
“Well,” Duo started to explain as he picked up a brick and lobbed it over his head. There was another yell of rage and followed with various choice picked curse words. Duo turned and looked at Heero, a smile spread across his face “Someone out there wants me dead, and they haven’t done that yet, so by showing that I am still ticking it annoys them” By the time he had finished explaining, Duo had already thrown three bricks at their enemy.
Heero picked a brick up and threw it “That is the most stupidest reason I have ever heard.” Heero scoffed.
“Well, what where you expecting? Something romantic like, I have someone who loves me?” Duo snorted “ I can’t believe I am going to say this to you of all people but, get real.” He gave his friend a long glance out of the corner of his eye. He picked up a brick and threw it again.
Heero shrugged and search for another projectile, a piece of wire with a chunk of granite on it was what he grabbed. He threw it and listened to someone scream and ducked as the wire came back to him. “But why spite?” He asked.
“they made my life a living hell, so I am returning the favour.” Duo shrugged again.
Heero dug into his pocket and pulled out a small black box with a red button on the end. “good enough for me.” He muttered as he pressed the button. There was a loud explosion and then silence.
“When did you do that?” Duo asked dumbly.
Heero smiled “when you weren’t looking.”
